Synthesia Pricing: Current Plans and What They Actually Include

Synthesia's free plan and its cheapest paid plan both give you 1,200 credits a month and the same 10 minutes of finished video. Paying £19 does not buy you a single extra minute. What it buys is downloads, the Synthesia logo gone and 125 avatars instead of 9. It also buys 3 avatars built from your own face, and dubbing at a quarter of what the free plan is charged.
The dubbing rate is the biggest of those and the one nobody mentions. The free plan pays 120 credits for a minute of dubbing. Every paid plan pays 25.

What Synthesia's plans cost
There are 3 self serve plans plus an enterprise tier. Yearly billing is what the page loads with, and a switch on each plan shows the monthly price instead.

Paying yearly is the single biggest saving on this page. Starter is £132 a year against £228 paid monthly, and Creator is £468 against £828. That is 42% off Starter and 43% off Creator. The yearly credit allowance works out fractionally higher rather than lower, so you are not buying a smaller plan wearing a cheaper price.
There is nothing between £19 and £69. If 10 minutes a month stops being enough, the next rung up is more than 3 times the price for 3 times the minutes.
The free plan and the paid plan carry the same minutes
Basic and Starter both carry 1,200 credits a month, and a minute of video costs 120 credits on either. So both stop at 10 minutes.
What that means in practice is that the free plan is a genuine trial rather than a preview. 10 minutes a month is enough to script something real, generate it and watch it back. You just cannot download it, and it carries the Synthesia logo.

What a credit buys
Every self serve plan now measures everything in credits, and Synthesia publishes a rate for each thing you can do with them.

Dubbing is where the free plan stops being a fair trial. Synthesia charges the free plan 4.8 times the paid rate for it. Translate a 10 minute video on Basic and your whole month is gone. Do the same on Starter and you have used a fifth of it.
The API row matters for a different reason. API video is cheaper per minute than a video you make in the editor, 75 credits against 120, and it comes out of the same allowance rather than being added to it. Creator is the only self serve plan with API access at all, and it caps that access at 360 minutes a year on top of the credit cost.

Why 25 video assets is not always 25 video assets
The Starter plan advertises 1,200 credits as 25 AI generated video assets. 25 is right if every clip you generate is the cheapest kind, a Veo 3.1 Fast clip with no audio at 48 credits.
Ask for a Veo 3.1 clip with audio instead and the same credits make 6 clips rather than 25. The advertised number is the best case, and nothing beside it says so.
The same pattern shows up on the yearly Starter plan, where the list of what the credits buy has 2 lines both labelled as dubbing and the second one is really the asset count. 300 of them, which is what 14,500 credits buys at the cheapest clip rate.
What each plan actually gives you
Credits do not roll over. Whatever is unused at the end of the billing period disappears, on every self serve plan.
You cannot buy more. Run out mid month and Synthesia caps you until the plan renews, or you upgrade. There are no top up packs and no overage rate at any price, which is unusual in this category and worth knowing before you commit to a deadline.
Guests are not editors. Starter gives 1 editor and 3 guests, Creator 1 editor and 5 guests, and guests comment rather than make videos. A second person who needs to make a video is an enterprise conversation.
Personal avatars are the real reason to pay. Starter includes 3 avatars built from your own face and Creator includes 5, which is the thing most people are buying one of these tools for. Synthesia also sells a Studio avatar as a $1,000 a year add on, available on annual plans only. For most people the 3 personal avatars on Starter cover the same job.
Roleplay sessions are capped at 10 a month on all 3 self serve plans, free included. Paying more does not buy more of those.
Who each plan is for
Under 10 minutes of video a month, and you do not need to download it: the free plan, which is genuinely usable rather than a preview.
Under 10 minutes a month and you do need the file: Starter at £11 a month on yearly billing. Paying monthly at £19 for the same thing costs £96 more a year.
Dubbing existing video rather than making new video: any paid plan, because the free plan is charged 4.8 times the rate and will not get you far.
10 to 30 minutes of video a month: Creator, and there is nothing in between to consider.
More than 30 minutes a month, or more than one person making videos: enterprise, and that means a sales call rather than a price.
Jobs Synthesia competes in
Synthesia is one of 3 tools priced against each other in what a minute of AI avatar video costs, which holds the volume constant and works out what each platform charges for the same finished minute. The short answer there is that Synthesia is the most expensive of the 3 per minute and the most generous on its free tier.
The tool it loses to most often on price is HeyGen, and HeyGen's own plans and credit rates are on a page of their own.

The pricing reads the same way that keynote did. Synthesia is built for companies rolling out training video, and its self serve plans are the thin end of that rather than a product aimed at one person. They are fine if 10 minutes a month is what you need, and an expensive dead end the month you need 40.
